How is Clarence Thomas a token?

Anonymous said...

I used to think that token representation was better than no representation at al but i am not sure i believe that anymore. People like Piyush and Clarence Thomas give people the illusion that they are liberal and accepting when its really the same stuff in different packaging.

@daycruz: how is he not? his reading of the constitution should disenfranchise his own people.

@Daycruz: You're joking right?

Haha, like the bit about Supriya changing her name. Has he ever explained why he changed his name?

I heart Michael Steele

This just makes me sad, Bobby Jindal as even the token representation of me? No thank you.

i feel bad for supriya she seems like a decent (albeit beige) brown girl...

Wow, Daycruz, I'm not sure where to begin. You really want to know why Clarence Thomas is a token? Because the stances that he takes on every issue -- stances that DEFINE the supreme law of the land -- are fundamentally racist, anti-immigrant, homophobic, and intolerant. He is basically the stooge on the bench who follows Papa Scalia on his every word . . . who rarely has an independent thought . . .and yet his presence on America's highest Court (arguably the most influential Court in the world) makes it easy for Americans who are blind to the reality of race-politics in this country, say, "look, we aren't racist, we may have been a country of slavery a hundred years ago and just fifty years ago blacks may have had to sit in the back of the bus and go to different schools . . .but damnit, look how far we've come! Not only do we have a black person on our bench, he sees things from our perspective!!! So, we must be right." That is why he is a token. Get it?

echo everything above...wow...

jesus people calm down! daycruz: clarence thomas is token because he is white, but born black.

Anonymous said...

OUCH. I sting on bobby jindal's behalf.

I am surprised that some people are supporting this dude. I laughed at the comic. It should have been even harsher!!!!!!

this is FANTASTIC.

ha. best parody of piyush yet!

Anonymous said...

veena is spot-on. and it highlights what makes this funny. piyush is our clarence for better or worse (likely for worse).

This is pretty harsh. Putting anybody in the same category as the first "black" justice on the bench is harsh. I'm not sure "Bobby" deserves it. But I am betting time will tell that he does.

Nicely done!

The sad part is that Piyush Jindal would have had a real shot at a run for president. Bobby Jindal on the other hand...

He doesn't seem as white as Dinesh D'Souza though. That dude is WHITE.
