Heh. It does seem like an awful lot of people all of a sudden want to improve themselves huh? The Obama crush continues!

Nice! Do you think Messiah O reads Proust too?!? Man, how is the average person supposed to keep up!

Hahaha!! You can take all our vices, make us exercise, but, please Mister President, please don't make us call our mother-in-laws! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Does Obama really still smoke?? So he is human!

This is funny and lots of us really do feel this way (minus the desire to smoke, I'm thinking!) I know it's cheesy, but I DO feel inspired and, you know what? Please oh please let it stay this way!

I've read a few of these, and I'm just curious as to why interracial relationships seem to be the standard? Is the new norm that desi women find desi men less desirable than white or black men? I don't know it just seems to be a trend is these comics.

how funny I was going to comment thanking you for your depictions of inter racial couples! (i am Indian married to a half white half vietnamese man). Love BG, love this one too. Gotta go better myself and exercise in this post nov 4 world!!

I think their depiction of interrelationships being the standard is sorta sad. I don't think interracial relationships themselves are per se bad, but I think we should be proud enough to take pride in ourselves and our men as the standard (our fathers and brothers).
Americans (white and black men) tend to pick and choose the pieces of our culture they enjoy. Loving desi women for their "exotic" look and culture, while depicting our men as corner shop charactures with their overbearing cultural values. Like I said before I see nothing wrong with interracial relationships, but I do see something wrong with thinking that being with a non-desi is some how preferable based on their race and culture.

This had me laughing out loud...but the jubilance is already waning no? I'm staying away from the interracial dating topic except to say: can't we all just get along???!?

Sita, are you serious that you find the depiction of interracial couple as a norm to be "sad"? First of all, this is a comic last I checked, not some statistic of desi relationships. Secondly: Lighten up!

Agree with previous poster. Also: it's funny! And the funnyness has nothing to do with the race of the characters, I don't think?

Sometimes a spade is a spade. Here, a comic is a comic. Why insert controversy where there isn't one? Aren't we allowed to laugh freely anymore? Without the laugh being based on a something "important" or "controversial"? My question is how anybody in his or her right mind doesn't find Maxim educational.

Just had a little laugh with my morning coffee. Don't want to become an apologist but the poster above was just asking a question and the PC police had to get all hectic. Sita, you're allowed to be sad. But, come on man, the comic's funny! How many people do you know who in the last week or so have earnestly told you, all saucer eyed, that they just feel this "thing" and want to be "better"! It's black, it's white, it's Indian (cue Michael Jackson here).

Haha, this is great, haven't seen the phenomenon depicted visually yet but it sure is exactly right. Found this comic through Ultrabrown and glad I did, looking forward to seeing more!

Awesome comic! I'm not kidding I almost gave my umbrella to a homeless guy in the city the other day, and yes I was thinking about Obama!!

I love the Brown Girls, you really should feature them more. Are there any other comics featuring South Asian women, as far as you know? I teach a cultural anthropology seminar with a focus on the diaspora and I would love to show these and other "modern" cultural artifacts--specifically related to women--to my class.

Hey, do you guys know one of your comics was posted on Sepia Mutiny?

Yes, Obama does make me want to be a better person. But I keep finding reasons not to be. Regarding the interracial thing: how are South Asian women going to rule the world if they don't marry outside the community?
